On 2 August 2025, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) team stationed at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) heard explosions. The IAEA team also saw smoke rising from a nearby location during the afternoon. One of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant’s auxiliary facilities was attacked on 2 August 2025, according to Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant officials. The auxiliary facility of Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is located approximately 1,200 metres from the plant’s perimeter. Military activity was heard near 9 a.m. local time, as the auxiliary facility came under shelling and drone attack. Smoke remained visible from the direction of the attacked facility well into the afternoon. Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.
