At least eight people lost their lives after a strong earthquake shook parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan , causing fear and damage across the region.   The earthquake, measuring 5.8 in magnitude, struck on Friday, April 3, 2026, in the late afternoon. It was recorded at around 5:39 PM local time (1309 GMT), when many people were still going about their daily routines. The sudden tremors caught residents off guard, forcing many to rush out of their homes and buildings in panic.   The epicenter of the quake was located in the mountainous Hindu Kush region, a well-known seismic zone. It was situated roughly 130 to 150 kilometers northeast or east of Kabul , and about 290 kilometers from the Afghan capital.
