First Recorded Eruption Since 15th Century Rocks Kamchatka Peninsula

The Krasheninnikov volcano on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula erupted for the first time in approximately 600 years. The eruption occurred overnight on August 3, 2025, at about 06:00 local time. The volcano stands at 1,856 meters elevation, located within the Kronotsky Nature Reserve, roughly 200 kilometers from Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky. The aviation hazard code was set to orange, prompting warnings for low flying aircraft. The eruption followed a magnitude 8.8 earthquake off Russia’s Far East on July 30, 2025, which triggered tsunami alerts across the Pacific.
