Russian Air Defence Successfully Repels Overnight Drone Offensive
Overnight Drone Attacks Span from Black Sea to Moscow Region
BACKGROUND
The overnight drone attack is part of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict that escalated in 2022, following Russia’s large-scale military operation in Ukraine. Since then, both sides have engaged in frequent aerial and drone warfare, targeting military and strategic sites. Ukraine has increasingly used drones to strike inside Russian territory, aiming to disrupt logistics, airfields, and fuel depots, while Russia has relied on its advanced air defence systems to counter these attacks. Regions such as Crimea, Belgorod, Bryansk, and the Moscow Region have become recurring targets due to their strategic and symbolic importance. This latest wave of 61 drones reflects Ukraine’s continued efforts to apply pressure deep into Russian airspace, and Russia’s swift interceptions demonstrate its focus on protecting critical infrastructure and populated areas.
