Pakistan Establishes New Army Rocket Force Command

Pakistan has introduced a new branch within its military structure, called the Army Rocket Force, also known as the Army Rocket Force Command.

This development was revealed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during a prominent ceremony in the capital city, Islamabad.
The declaration was made on August 13, 2025, at the main Independence Day gathering, held a day before the nation’s 78th Independence Day celebrations.
The event took place at Islamabad’s Jinnah Sports Stadium, also referred to as Jinnah Ground.
The newly formed unit has been tasked with overseeing and managing missile operations during conventional military engagements.
Its creation is aimed at boosting Pakistan’s conventional deterrence and enhancing the army’s operational strength.
The decision follows increased tensions and the military confrontation with India in May 2025.
According to a senior security source, the force will function under its own independent command, concentrating entirely on the deployment and control of missile systems in conventional conflict scenarios.
Prime Minister Sharif noted that the unit will be outfitted with advanced technology.
He characterized its establishment as a significant step forward in improving the Pakistan Army’s combat readiness.
During the event, he appealed to all political factions and members of civil society to unite under the Misaq-e-Istehkam-e-Pakistan, or “Charter for Pakistan’s Stability,” to foster national solidarity beyond partisan lines.
One senior official plainly remarked that the formation of the force is directed toward countering India.

STANCE:

Indian media reports frame Pakistan’s creation of the Army Rocket Force as a hurried and reactive measure following India’s “Operation Sindoor.” They highlight that Islamabad’s move signals heightened military urgency, increased defense expenditure, and a push to centralize missile command under one dedicated force. The tone suggests that this development is being viewed as part of a broader regional arms buildup, potentially escalating tensions in South Asia.

BACKGROUND

In recent years, tensions between Pakistan and India have periodically escalated, particularly over disputed territories and cross-border security concerns. The two nuclear-armed neighbors have experienced a series of military standoffs, skirmishes, and incidents involving artillery, airstrikes, and missile exchanges, which have heightened regional insecurity. Against this backdrop, Pakistan has focused on strengthening its conventional military capabilities to ensure readiness for potential conflicts while maintaining a strategic balance with India. The announcement of the Army Rocket Force in August 2025 represents a significant step in this broader defense strategy, aiming to enhance missile management, operational coordination, and rapid deployment capacity in conventional warfare scenarios. This development reflects Pakistan’s intent to modernize its armed forces, project deterrence, and respond effectively to regional security challenges without reliance on nuclear escalation, while signaling its commitment to maintaining national defense and stability in South Asia.
